At St. James's Palace, the Principal Proclamation appointing King Charles III as the new monarch has been read.

Following the Accession Council on Saturday, the Earl Marshal and Garter King of Arms David White read the address as part of the traditional process of notifying the nation of the former monarch's passing (10.09.22).

White delivered the identical address to the Accession Council that had previously been read by the clerk.

"Whereas it has pleased Almighty God to call to his Mercy our late royal lady Queen Elizabeth the Second of blessed and glorious memory, by whose demise the crown of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is entirely and properly given to Prince Charles Philip Arthur George," the speaker added. Therefore, with one voice and consent of tongue and heart, we, the lords spiritual and temporal of this realm, the members of the House of Commons, other members of her late majesty's privy council, representatives of the realms and territories, aldermen, Londoners, and others, publish and proclaim that Prince Charles Philip Arthur George has now, as a result of the passing of our late sovereign of happy memory, become our only legal and legitimate heir.

"By the grace of God, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, King, head of the commonwealth, defender of the faith, to whom we do acknowledge all faith and obedience with humble affection, praying that God by whom kings and queens do reign, bless his majesty with long and happy years to reign over us."

Gun salutes and the playing of "God Save the King" were next, and many members were in attendance wearing their regalia.
